Adam woke up the next morning barely able to breathe in the hot stuffy tent. He checked his phone to see that it was barely past eight o'clock. The sun had only been up a couple of hours but it was already blazing.

He hadn't slept well. Between the constant noise outside and the deflating air mattress that caused he and Lizzie to sink into the middle during the night, he'd barely slept a wink.

"Oh god, I can't breathe in here," Lizzie said, throwing off the covers. "Open a window or something."

"We're naked."

"So? I'm dying."

Adam reluctantly unzipped one of the windows and a burst of cool fresh air came in. He could see right through the screen out into the camp and anyone who happened by could see right in as well. The festival was quieter than he'd seen since arriving, though there were still several people up and about.

"We should hit the showers before everyone else wakes up," Adam said.

"Good idea."

"How'd you sleep?"

Lizzie squinted in the brightness. "Terrible, you?"

"Same. Air mattresses suck."

"And I should have brought earplugs." Lizzie crawled over to her bag of toiletries. "It's already a mess in here."

"Camping life, I guess."

"I was not made for this."

"Are you sore from the fight?"

Lizzie sat up on her knees and twisted her torso back and forth. "Surprisingly, no. My head hurts, though."

"Mine too. We need to hydrate."

Adam and Lizzie wrapped towels around their bodies and stepped out into the crisp morning air. Soap and shampoo in hand, they trekked across the camp to the community shower. The shower itself was little more than a frame of two-by-fours nailed to a wooden pallet with fabric tied to each post as walls. Each corner had a wide gap that anyone could see into, but Adam told himself he was just going to have to get over it. Fortunately, few people were around to see.

"We should go exploring," Lizzie said as they were getting dressed back in the tent. A chill wind had picked up while they were showering so they opted for heaver coverings than the day before. Lizzie put on the breast-bulging corset and a knee-length skirt while Adam picked out a pair of cargo pants and a tight-fitting long-sleeved shirt.

"Sure. It may be a while before anyone's up."

"Perfect time to go on a little adventure then."

They downed a cup of instant coffee, topped off their water bottles, and headed out on foot. The festival had filled up since the day before as more people arrived. The craziness of the prior evening felt like a distant dream.

"It's like we're in some ancient desert settlement," Lizzie said.

"Humans lived this way for far longer than they've lived in permanent houses."

"Crazy to think about."

Not half a block down the road they came upon a camp that had dozens of bicycles lined up at stands along the road, all painted the same orange and green patterns. A small group of people was sitting in a circle eating breakfast.

"Howdy!" One of the guys called out as Adam and Lizzie approached.
